Prof Dr Md Abul Hasnat Joarder is a senior Otorhinolaryngologist (Ear Nose and Throat
specialist) and medical academic in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has 37 years of experience in
the subject. His main clinical interests are Otology, Cochlear Implant, and Prevention of
Deafness. As an ear surgeon, he performs complex otologic procedures. He is capable of
decision-making in difficult ear diseases. Hearing reconstruction is his priority objective. He
uses state-of-the-art technology and latest techniques for accurate diagnosis and proper
treatment of Hearing loss, Tinnitus and Vertigo. He manages hearing disability in children
with sound knowledge, empathy and great care. Prof Joarder has dedicated himself to
education and training in Otolaryngology. A keen interest of Prof Joarder is to acquire
advanced skills from centers outside Bangladesh and disseminate those amongst his
students in Bangladesh. He is actively involved in the postgraduate curriculum
development and evaluation in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in BCPS and BSMMU.
Currently, he is offering consultation in Anwer Khan Modern Medical College Hospital,Dhaka.
Prof. Joarder is the first Bangladeshi surgeon to perform a Cochlear implant in Bangladesh.
As the founder Director, he started the Government of Bangladesh’s first cochlear implant
programme at BSMMU giving implantion as an institutional shape. He has also provided
technical support to the development of programs at National Institute of ENT and SOMC.
He is an accomplished master surgeon educator, mentoring 6 cochlear implant surgeons at
BSMMU who have all individually completed over a hundred cochlear implants
themselves. He also built from the ground up the audiology and speech therapy
infrastructure; and even leaded designing of the Cochlear operating room and temporal
bone dissection labs.
